LYRICS
You can almost sense the worthless act
And frustration's there to touch
The breaking glass is my mark, see
Just a cry in the dark
Kicking Inanimate Objects

Typical English Town
04:20
|
|||
LYRICS
In a typical English town
Rows of shops and they're all closed down
Pound shop culture reminds us of this, we're not here to live, we're here to exist
In a typical English town
Welcome to the down and down
The multiples decided that there's no point at all and got up and left
Pound shop culture reminds us of this, we're not here to live, we're here to exist
In a typical English way
With a typical English sign
'Closing Down Sale'
What you doing? I'm just hanging around
What you doing? I'm just hanging around
Wasting time and just hanging around
Wasting time and just hanging around
The multiples decided that there's no point at all and got up and left
Pound shop culture reminds us of this, we're not here to live, we're here to exist
In a typical English town
In a typical English town
In a typical English way
With a typical English sign
'Closing Down Sale'
In a typical English town
Down and down

Do It Again
02:56
|
|||
LYRICS
Well hell, it's a brand new thing brand new in everyway
No no no american xerox copy no way no influence
We don't need 'em anyway
We just see what's selling and et voila
It's the new sound that we're bound to become eventually
Because it's less risky
Do it again
Do do, do it again
Ultimately it doesn't mean a thing we can't do anything
We can't consolidate and it's all too late and people have moved on
And we must follow now, it might seem hollow doesn't cause us any anguish
Cos a fast buck is a fast buck
In anybody's language
Do it again
Do do, do it again
We're not leaders we're sheep cos it's cheap and we'll reap the benefits of other's lack of sleep
And their toil whilst our toil is really nothing much at all
Bring out the fresh faces for the camera forever and ever
Cos a fast buck is a fast buck, amen
Let's do it again, do it again
Do it again
Do do, do it again

Factory In My head
02:14
|
|||
LYRICS
Will the work ethic make us all rich
Or is it a trick to dictate the way we live
And will we ever get away without our hands on the reigns
And will we ever get away when all remains the same
Don't make me laugh
I've got a factory in my head
Don't make me laugh
I've got a factory in my head
Don't make me laugh
I've got a factory in my head
I've got a work place in my bed, got a work place in my bed
Get away, get away, get away get away now
Get away, get away, get away get away now
And don't make me laugh
I've got a factory in my head
Don't make me laugh
I've got a factory in my head
Don't make me laugh
I've got a factory in my head
I've got a work place in my bed, got a work place in my bed

The New Black
03:58
|
|||
LYRICS
The new black
It's not a colour it's a marketing concept to sell more
Change the image by degrees to sell these
Here's the cycle recycled a new lease
Here's the new black it's a rebrand it's a remix a repeat a rename
It's not the black that we knew before oh no
It's the new thing created to replay, replay
The present redundant recycled remodelled re branded
The past is the only way forward the old thing the new thing the same thing
The past is where the future lies and the present lies are to make you buy, and
The new black
It's not a colour
It's a poor excuse for the other
Here's the new black it's so different and by different I mean not that different
It depends on the marketing clearly, but to me it looks the same exactly
And the past is where the future lies and the present lies are to make you buy, and
The new black
It's not a colour
It's a poor excuse for the other

Dark Times
03:08
|
|||
LYRICS
You know the shadows are moving in, it's not making the headlines
And the stars are going out, one by one see
Must be the seventh time this week, that I've turned the news off
It must be the seventeenth time, that I've doubted the future
And the shadows are moving in, and the clouds are darkening
We've seen these things before, events spiralling
It must be the seventh time this week, that I've doubted myself
And the seventeenth time, I've been doubted by someone else
Dark times

Boy's A Drunk
03:08
|
|||
LYRICS
Oh pass the past over here, dissect the actions of this year
You've let yourself be used again, you've let yourself be used again
You've been in a mood all week, you've been in a mood all week
You've been in the shade to long, you've been in his shadow
The boy's a drunk
Oh something's broken pass the glue, I'm covered in it, so are you
You've covered up the cracks too long, you've covered up the cracks too long
You've gone and left the map at home, you've gone and left the map at home
You've been in the shade too long, you've been in his shadow
The boy's a drunk
Down down
Oh pass the past over here, dissect the actions of this year
You've let yourself be used again, you've let yourself be used again
You've been in a mood all week, you've been in a mood all week
You've covered up the cracks too long, you've covered up the tracks too long
You've gone and left the map at home, you've gone and left the map at home
You've been in the shade too long, you've been in his shadow
The boy's a drunk
Down down

Universal Flavour
04:24
|
|||
LYRICS
Old lover told new lover don't bother with the sod
He'll only push you under
End up angry and very very bitter
This boy is just a waste of space a useless loser, quitter
So open up your eyes girl and do yourself a favour
You know who's at the centre of his universal flavour
His universal

Spirals
04:42
|
|||
LYRICS
My mojo in the clearance bin
Clone towns with zombies working in
Fighting over TV screens as the spiral spirals
Those bingo wing cackle nights
Grown men riding children's bikes
Everyone's told what they like as the spiral spirals
The silly selling exercise
Adds to another list of lies
The tower falls before our eyes as the spiral spirals
The fruit and fibre flavour five
Keeps us all barely alive
It's new cannon fodder for the hive as the spiral spirals
Oh keep us down where we want to be
With alcohol and the Tee Vee
It's new surfdom for the free and the spiral spirals
And the spiral spirals

1960's Science Fiction
05:15
|
|||
LYRICS
A 1960s science fiction future
In fifty years it's bound to get much better, surely
Where it all went wrong nobody can answer
Soon devoured by 2000 paranoia
A 1960s science fiction drama
The hero saves the day in what looks like pyjamas
Where it all went wrong nobody can answer
Replaced by economic piranhas
Oh where's that future gone now
I wouldn't call this progress

Seven Circles
03:05
|
|||
LYRICS
Thanks for being there, to point out my failings
Oh and thanks for being there, to prove me wrong again
As lovers we spent too much, of our time arguing
And the doubt hangs around, but you can't walk away now
This is not how it seemed, back in the 1970s
This is not what I dreamed, in the 1970s
Oh and thanks for being there, to point out my failings
Oh and thanks for being there, to prove me wrong again
Since the 1970s
Back to the start again, through seven circles
Round and round and round, like a constant reminder
Start and start again, to point out my failings
Through seven circles, prove me wrong again
Since the 1970s

The People Have Spoken
03:33
|
|||
LYRICS
You should aim higher than that
You should aim higher than that
The people have spoken
Yeah
But they should aim higher than that
We have what we get, We don't complain
The people have spoken, Yeah
The people have spoken, We don't complain
But they should aim so much higher than that
Yeah

You Should Be A Singer
03:43
|
|||
LYRICS
You should be a singer, with a face like that
With looks like that, and skin to match
You should be a singer, with a face like that
With looks like that, and skin to match
You should be a singer
Oh mannequin, a plastic smiling thing
I can sell that face, I can sell that skin
You should be a singer
Oh you should be a singer
You should be a star

14. |
||||
LYRICS
When they closed the factory down
Thinking of the savings
And the work just went away
Our dreams hang round on corners
Let's pretend that it's not real
If we close our eyes real tight
It's like it never happened
And when they washed their hands of this
Like it never mattered
Let's pretend that it's not real
|
||||
15. |
||||
LYRICS
Oh bargain basement, and lack of vision
Nicely sums up, our ambition
Closing down sale, our admission
That pound shop culture is our new tradition, our new tradition
Closing down sale and then forgotten
How we got to bounce along the bottom
And after all these years, realisation
Oh I just realised how much I hate this place how much I hate this place
Bounce along the bottom like a rubber ball
There's no point at all
To this new tradition

We Are Thorns
06:10
|
|||
LYRICS
We're made of stinging nettles and the thorns that catch you as you pass
And the unwanted things that grow beneath the cracks in the path
I'm lord of all that I survey with my eyes firmly shut
You know that I'm the king of everything that I can touch, from here
The king of nothing much at all, the king of nothing much
Oh we're as popular as popular as all those paper cuts, ha ha ha
We are thorns in the paws of limping lions at cave doors
We are like bits of plastic and the bottles washed up by the sea
About as useless as the ads for trips and falls on the Tee Vee
We've fallen down the cracks at the back of the settee
We are thorns in the paws of limping lions at cave doors
We are thorns

Church of Elvis England, UK
Church OF Elvis (everybody's 90's support act, nobody's darlings) reformed and released Submarina in 2014 and the brilliant
Spirals in 2015. They are back during lockdown with the melancholy Rotten Fruit. Their back catalogue is enormous, but you won't find one Elv the Pelv cover version lurking anywhere!
They will also drink your rider, you have been warned.
